After overcoming setbacks, delays, and the challenges posed by the pandemic, we are thrilled to announce that Open Roads Media will finally be launching our Palestine Podcast Academy! In fact, we’ll be launching two of them!
Palestinians residing in Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem are invited to join our free three-week online course where you will learn about the fundamentals of journalism, interviewing techniques, scripting, recording, and editing your podcasts. We’ll also be sharing tips on how to market and monetize your podcast.
Episodes will be produced in both Arabic and English to reach the widest possible audience.
At the end of the course each team of participants will have a complete episode of their own.
All successful graduates will have access to 6 months of continued mentorship and support to help you continue the production of your podcasts.
We are fundamentally a free-speech project. We just want you to focus on personal stories and to creatively express your reality in the podcast format. The specific topics will be up to you and to your teams to decide.
Only 30 slots are available for the initial phase of this course. This means 15 spaces for our first three week course in September, and 15 spaces for the second three-week course in October. Both courses will be identical.
Please be aware that you need to be flexible as we may not be able to let people choose which of the two courses they participate in.
The Requirements:
Participants must be at least 20 years of age
Course dates are: September 5th to 23rd for the first group, and October 3rd to 21st for the second
All course materials and instruction will be entirely in English. Participants must speak English fluently enough to follow all course materials in English and write and broadcast their shows in English.
Currently reside in Palestine
Be fully committed to completing the three-week course. This is a team effort and we need people who are committed to showing up on time and every day to support their team members!
The time commitment is roughly two hours per day, Sunday through Thursday, plus group projects and readings to be completed between classes.
If participants have a journalism/media background that would of course be a plus. Access to a laptop so that students can participate from home would be ideal, but we may be able to help if they do not have access to resources. In some cases we may also be able to help with transportation costs.
We are still working out the time of the course, but flexibility in your schedule for two hours each day would be optimal.
Please, send your CV to our colleague Duha a abu Hijjleh on her email address: dabuhijjleh@birzeit.edu, for more information you can call on: 0569999958
Deadline for applying is: Tuesday, 24 August 2021.
Thank you!
