Media Development Center Concludes Media Education Course

The Birzeit University Media Development Center, in cooperation with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German institution Deutsche Welle (DW), concluded a  three-day media education course held at the Ramallah Technical College for Girls and commencing on October 18, 2014.

The course was supervised by trainer Zahi Allawi from DW and Ma’moon Matar from the center and was aimed at public relations staff in Palestinian technical institutes. The course sought to train participants in using online media and social networks, using digital media tools in campaigns and preparing communication plans.

This is the first of three courses on media education carried out by the Media Development Center to benefit the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Ministry of Labor. A second session will be held on October 20-23, 2014 and a third on November 11-13, 2014

The study of "Assessment of Media Development in Palestine," based on UNESCO's Media Development indicators which is recognized internationally, is considered the first Palestinian study with this inclusiveness, diversity and depth; the study included researches in various related topics of the media, ranging from the curricula of the media, and ending with the infrastructure, including laws, ethics and syndicate regulatory procedures and action.

Moreover, it is the thirteenth study: the tenth globally and the third on the Arab world, it has been completed over 18 months in both West Bank and Gaza, depending on a group of researchers and academic supervisors who own professional experience both locally and internationally, and this is in partnership between the Media Development Center(MDC) / Birzeit University, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO".

These diagnostic study of the reality of the Palestinian media, is a scientific reference and reliable, indispensable source for anyone interested in Palestinian Media, whether a teacher, a trainer , a journalist , a researcher , legislators or a Media decision maker, on the level of the institution or the state, also it is a reference for all donors of Media sector, as well as donors defending freedom of opinion and expression.

Under the supervision of Swedish director PeÅ Holmquist Starting documentary filmmaking training course

Media Development Center at Birzeit University launched a training course in documentary filmmaking led by the Swedish director PeÅ Holmquist , who directed many documentaries in different parts of the world , and his films won many awards , He is also one of the most important trainers in this domain in the world.
The training material includes theoretical and practical training  material that covers the foundations of the production of documentary films .the workshop includes principles of filming and types of documentary films , the relationship between the director and the work team , stages of production and research , content treatment and script writing , directing and rules of cinematic language , technical processing , mixing and editing.
The Director of Media Development Center Nibal Thawabteh said : "The course aims at providing professional training in the field of documentary films on both sides; media and technical , at the end of this training course, it is expected to have six produced documentaries with high level and impact that are produced inside the MDC’s studio that is fully equipped with cameras and control room ,to produce professional  reports and documentaries.

The MDC hosted 40 students from Al-Quds Open University, they recently wrapped up training in the arts of media and public relations , in collaboration with the Ministry of Information , as part of its plan to spread media education .
The visit aimed at close familiarization of students to the center as a media organization , owns units that gather media various types:  radio , TV and print media.
The tour ended with a visit  to photo exhibition organized by the Media Department ,  the exhibition was dedicated to the spirit of martyr of Birzeit University and the Media Department: Saji Darwish, it included a group of distinctive student work within the photojournalism course, with the participation of a group of photojournalists.
